Autism Paraprofessional Training

Description

Last revised 2023 - updates in progress.

This course was created in response to Virginia House Bill 325 which requires specific training for aides who support students with autism and meets the requirements set forth in VDOE's Training Standards for Paraprofessionals Assigned to Work with a Teacher Who Has Primary Oversight of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

It is designed to aid in creating an effective educational team in public schools, private schools, and preschools. While the standards are for paraprofessionals, this course is also appropriate for teaching staff. Effective teaching increases the learning of students with autism.

This course includes the following modules
  • Autism 101
  • Comprehensive Instructional Programming
  • Environmental Structures/Visual Supports
